Club member Larry Tate has announced his plans for our annual "Scale Model" Fly In to be conducted on Saturday, July 17th.  In the event of rain, the event will be postponed to Sunday, the next day.

Our Scale Model Fun Fly has always been a popular event.  Here are some of the details provided to date:

Judged flying will be scored under rules based on the Scalemasters rule book for those who wish to compete for cash prizes.  Only one aircraft per pilot may be entered!

A  $15.00 entry fee is required for those pilots wishing to compete in the scale flight judging events and subsequent prize money.  All entry money will be awarded as follows:
1st Place Fun Scale
2nd Place Fun Scale
3rd Place Fun Scale

Between judgeing rounds, the field will be open to any model that represents a real aircraft.  Each aircraft flown will be eligible for a cash prize for "People's Choice" award and "Pilot's Choice" award.

A $5.00 landing fee will be required for those who wish to fly any scale model during the open flying sessions.

All fees collected will be paid out as prize money - no monies will be retained by CCRCS.

A radio control themed "Goody Raffle" will be held.

Burgers, hot dogs, and drinks will be available at a reasonable price.

The Fun Scale Fly In was held Saturday, July 17, under a very gray sky with light, but at times, gusty winds that caused it to be unseasonably chilly for the middle of July. Perhaps due to the weather conditions, participation in the judged and open flying portions was lighter than anticipated but the spectator turnout was outstanding.  Those who did fly put on a great show and had a good time doing it. Those of you that own scale aircraft and were not there, missed out on a great time!

The scores were very close between the top four competitors after two rounds of competition. Grant Lord, who flew his big electric powered Flybaby bipe, really drilled the last round to squeak by Luis Munoz with his e-powered Cub for first place. Back on leave from the
Army, Greg Agar flying his glow powered CAP 580 pulled out a very narrow finish over Frank Williams and his e-powered C160 Transall for third place.

While the votes were tallied, many models were lined up on the runway and voted on for the People’s Choice Award. Lance Nordby, a member of the Fly-A-Ways Club in Gaston, Ore., flew a beautiful e-powered ducted fan F-20 model which sported a finely detailed set of
scale retracts, won the award.

After the awards were presented, the Goody Raffle was held featuring 18 items. ( Grand prize: E-Flight's new F-86!) A lunch of burgers, dogs, chips, and pop was served for a very reasonable price.

Thanks to our judges, Mike Akers, Mike Scott, Cliff Bemrose, and Ed Weiss who again, did a very professional job. Thanks to Dave & Cathy Agar, Linda Weiss, and Sandy Strader for cooking and serving some great chow cooked on the grill supplied by Ed Weiss. And a very special thanks to Ted Atmore for his help in so many ways, including setup, cleanup, procuring and distributing the raffle prizes, providing the setup for voting, etc. "Couldn’t do it without ya!"

Thanks to all that attended and braved the chilly breeze!

Larry Tate

Webmaster Note:  The event featured six registered pilots for the competition, including Jerry Holcomb, and was open for free fly periodically. The number of spectators rivaled the earlier Warbird event, and consisted of many other members of the club, as well as many public by-standers that attended just to observe the show.  I heard reports of two club applications taken that day.  Congratulations to Larry and all involved on this fun and very worthwhile event.  Let's do it again next year!   -  Dave Anderson
