Club secretary and long-time R/C enthusiast Dave Agar has announced plans for the annual event, conducted at the CCRCS club field at the fairgrounds.

This year's annual event is dedicated to the sons of several club members, including Tom's son, now serving in Iraq, and Dave's son, serving in the Army.

All pilot's family members and the general public is invited to attend as spectators.  The competition is open to all club members, and guests with AMA membership.  All aircraft need to be a scale model plane representing a real plane from any military conflict, from any era.  Electric or nitro models are welcome.

This year's event will include a door prize for pilots and the spectators, and a there will be BBQ will be on site, hosted by club member Larry Tate. We hope to have an F-15 flyover by the Oregon National Guard, media coverage, and prominent guest(s) from Clark County government.

The entry fee will be $15.00, or $10.00 and a large bag of candy that won't melt in shipment to the troops - like hard candy.  $5.00 of every entry fee will be given back to the winner of the door prize.

The pilots meeting will be held at 8:45 sharp, and flying starts at 9 AM. The event will conclude at 1 PM with the door prizes.

Everything about this event was amazing this day!  The weather was good, and the people were great.  Dave Agar relates that after the pilot's meeting concluded, there was non-stop flying until the event ended and went to open flying . . .  four hours of airplanes in the sky!

We were visited by several people in the area, including pilots from OMAS and the Dusters club.  We can report that 23 pilots were registered, many are military veterans themselves.  2 full boxes of candy were collected, along with donations providing for a total of 120 lbs of candy mailed out to military personnel.   Over $400 in prizes were awarded.  And, thanks in part to a recent article appearing in the Battle Ground Reflector newspaper, we counted at least 90 fliers and visitors in attendance.  Four families inquired for membership!  After the event, almost ten people tried their hand in flying the club trainer aircraft!  All in all, a great day, and a fun and wonderful event!  Congratulations to our visitor (non-member), Troy Batten, for winning the big prize. . . a Great Planes .25 size P-40 kit!  One exciting event was to watch our venerable "Tom O" bring home a profile P-51 with the tail missing!  And check out the young boys trying out their first flights - the pictures are below!

For recognition, we should thank Ted Atmore for his work in painting the pilot's stations, trimming the grass around the stations, the tables, and the frequency board.  Dave Agar and John Shirron were out there early - around 7 AM to get things ready.  Our President, Mike Akers, manned the ticket counter and registrations.  Larry Tate, Sandy Strader ( and her friends from a hospital "OR" - Julie Blomdahl, Joanie Blackler ), Phil Strader, and Corky Ronalder manned the grill, served up over 100 meals with the hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and drinks.  Now that's some good eatin'!  Thanks guys!

What a great event!!!  Thanks to all who participated and helped out!  Now, will somebody check the license on those Koon brothers. . . I heard there were "equipment" issues. . .   !!! ????

Now, please enjoy the pictures below, kindly furnished by Kathy Agar.  Click on any picture for a larger view.

See you next year!
