FUEL CATCH CAN

Hey fellow fliers!  Let's clean up our mess!  Or rather - let's not make it in the first place!

How many times have you fueled up your bird only to find excess fuel spilling onto the table or the ground?  This is an easy fix.  I learned of the idea at the field from a friend one day, but I can't remember who to attribute it to. . . it's been in the hobby for quite a few years now.

I use a 10 oz plastic orange juice bottle - you can use whatever you like.  The idea is to connect the tube from the catch can to the exhaust side of the engine as you fuel up to allow any excess fuel to route directly into the catch can.

To set up your catch can, fasten a length of fuel tubing to the top of the bottle.  The picture above shows the cap fitted with brass fittings.  I simply made two holes in the plastic cap of my orange juice bottle, inserted the fuel tube, and ringed the tube above and below the cap with a zip tie to hold it in place.  The other hole is used as a vent, or to route to your fuel supply.

Keep your bottle clean, use an inline filter, and you can re-use the excess fuel by transferring it back to your regular fuel bottle.

No fuss!  No mess!  Salvaged fuel!  It's a win-win scenario!
