DAVE AGAR'S SCRATCH-BUILD L-19 Page 2 |
||
|
I have the fuselage sides cut out and the upper and lower formers cut out and ready to glue. It is on to the fuselage formers next. |
||
![]() As
I stated, I bought a set of plans. I got the plans
copied so that I always have an
original
set. You can get them copied at most
copy shops. I use the copy set to cut out all the templates. I cut
out the templates and use carbon paper to draw my parts out on the
proper size wood getting it ready to cut out. For the fuselage,
where both parts need to be exact I tape the pieces together and cut
them out one edge at a time. Once I have one edge cut, I will tape
that edge together and cut another, making sure that my 2 pieces of
wood are taped together and cannot move. The 2 pieces stay together
until I have made all cuts on them. |
||
![]() I have all the formers cut out and I am test fitting them to make sure that they all fit as designed. Naturally some sanding is needed to make the fit as close to perfect as possible. Getting close to looking like a plane!!! |
||
![]() As you can see, the L-19 has a round bottom which makes for a tough build when gluing all the formers to the fuselage sides. I have an empty kit box that I use to shove the former bottoms into so I can glue the formers on. I have cut the slots so that the formers are a tight fit and do not fall into the box. Kinda cave man in design, but it works. |
||
![]() Here she is on the box top and all clamped up as the epoxy dries. I also have a center line on the box to help in keeping things straight. |
||
![]() Here is the result after all the formers are glued in. A little sanding is in order and some triangle stock needs to be applied to the fire wall back side. |
||
![]() Here she is ready for all the other needed parts. Having looked at this pic, I might need to spend a few minutes cleaning up the work bench. |
