| I laid out my design and then embarked on a 4 hour job off taping of all the patterns. I used the blue masking tape that is designed for delicate surfaces. I started with the standard blue masking tape, however discovered that when it was removed it was pulling up my edges. The delicate did not do this and was easy to remove. I decided to use my Badger air brush that is designed for color application, not fine work. I have a Badger 250 for my fine work. I needed to thin the paint about 10 percent with tap water and set my regulator to 30 PSI. I was impressed with how well the paint sprayed. | ||
I got ambitious and taped up one of the wings, getting it ready for paint. |
| I did discover that the first stars that I taped had the edges lifting just a smidge when I sprayed and I did get some bleed, however is not really noticable until you look for it and not noticable at all from a distance. When I do the rest of the painting, I need to remember to go back and reseat all the edges that I have taped first. On the edges that I had just finished prior to painting, the lines are crisp and sharp. Very time consuming, but I think worth the effort. You tell me! | ||
I have also gotten some of the striping done on the fuselage. |
My work schedule is so hectic of late, I am lucky to even find my work shop! I was able to get the tail all put together and the rear deck all covered and ready for the N numbers to be painted on. I obtained some stencils that are the correct size and am in the process of taping them off. |
I can tell you that painting all the stars was alot less work as far as taping goes then the N numbers are going to be. Once I get the numbers on, I will have to install the canopy and then it will be ready for clear coat. Work is slow, but we are making progress! |
I am on vacation this week and I have got a lot done on her. All the clear coating is complete and we are into final assembly. |
I got the wheel pants on and the seats in the cockpit. My garage sale Ken doll is all smiles setting in the front seat and I just hope he is still all smiles after the maiden flight! I still have to get the receiver and battery installed. |
| My bottom radio hatch was installed and the white unpainted edges showed when I installed it. It has been removed and repainted, however I need to wait a week or so before I can clear coat it again. Once all the radio is installed I will need to balance her. | ||
